Ratings for Victoria
I have received very good care at Victoria Hospital in a few different departments with no complaints but tonight my experience at the emerg was the worst. I brought my mom in for an infection in her arm, we were told by the Triage nurse a 2 hour wait but he said maybe shorter. We got seated in the waiting room and saw that behind the registration desk that a sign said 5+ hour wait, so clearly not all staff are on the same page. We understand her condition isn't life threatening and waiting was only fair. but what we witnessed while we waited was disgusting. First there was a man in a hospital wheel chair who looked to us as a drug addict. He looked very sick and asked us me to buy him a pepsi because he needs sugar. I didn't have enough change to buy him one but we also felt that should be the hospitals responsibility. I went to the desk to let them know what he said to me. 5 minutes later they attend to him and bring him out. In the meantime I got him a cup of water. Later on they brought him back out with his leg wrapped up. He started yelling HELP NURSE and it took him about 4 times yelling this in a 5 minute span for someone to filling help him. They attended to his needs but left his wheel chair now in the entrance between the two sets of sliding doors, to scare people just entering the emerg. Also he was bleeding through his wrapping and had blood towels around him laying on the floor and whenever staff walked in and out nobody cared to pick it up. All while this is happening a young boy who was waiting before us maybe age 25 was in a hospital wheel chair looking sicker and sicker as the time was going on. He has friends with him but then was later all alone. He eventually urinated himself through the wheel chair. I told the lady sitting beside him so she was aware and she went and told the people at the desk. A woman this whole time was vomiting so loud the entire place could hear her. Why were none of these people taken care of??? How come they were left in the waiting room to make everyone else sicker? This whole time i had to keep talking my mom into staying to be seen but she was so upset and disgusted by this that she wanted to leave, and many people around us were saying the same things. I finally gave in to her and agreed to try another hospital. I kindly went to the desk to let them know we were leaving and to pick up a document i thought she left with them and I got asked "why, whats going on" and so i got angry and told the lady what was going on and how i felt about it. I got angry because I thought how can you people not see whats going on in your own environment that your getting paid to know whats going on. I would normally just blame this problem on the government and say they are just short staff and trying their best to be fast and efficient but there was plenty of staff behind that desk and nobody seemed to want to help.. not even after I expressed my concerns. I appreciate the pretty blond lady who was behind the desk for helping me and listening to me even when i was raging and she was never rude back which I know is hard to do... I just wish she was more aware of the poor conditions. I understand everyone has a role and not everyone is certified for every duty but I work in health care and I understand things get very busy and sometimes you need to get help out wherever you are needed. Someone could have mopped up the urine and someone could have picked up the bloody towel. A woman beside me walked back from the washroom and said "theres about 4 of them behind the desk just chatting away and laughing, this is entertainment for them, well its not entertaining for us." With the infection control protocols now days I feel it wasnt being met at Victoria Emerg

I support the negative comments made as I to feel that the treatment of patients by LHSC UH and Victoria provides a low standard of patient care. Nurses feel resentful that they are being overworked somehow, yet they receive very good compensation. The compassion and professionalism has all but gone. I am a health care professional myself and honestly, I avoid going to the hospital at all costs. I see the treatment I received, my family members and patients who I have had to send to emergency. I have had an elderly patient state to me once when I was preparing to send him to UH ER, "please don't send me there, people go there to die". It is heartbreaking to hear this. The younger doctors and nurses do not possess the interpersonal skills necessary to relate to patients in a caring and empathetic manner. I have heard horror stories. My own aunt was taken there for treatment but sadly passed due to "complications". Yes, we are fortunate to have physicians in this city, but then again, one has to wait up to a year to even see one of them. UH - needs better housekeeping of their facilities.
I went in for an operation for my ovary, and they discharged me WAY too fast. The nurses told me they were going to discharge me the same day, even against my doctors highly requested orders to keep me at LEAST one day given the seriousness of other health issues I have which will be affected by the surgery. I was forced to ague with the nurses right before they wheeled me in for my surgery that I did not feel safe going home so soon against my doctors advice. They kept me barely 1 day, and rushed me through every little thing in hope of kicking me out. I was forced out, and had to try and recover at a local motel, where I fell 3 different times due to being too weak to walk and stand properly on my own, and couldn't even lift my own legs up to get into bed. The surgeon also shamed and berated me in the hospital for having high blood sugar readings, ( I'm a type 1 diabetic ) even though my doctor told me not to take as much insulin as he wanted my number higher for safety reasons....horrible hospital. Cruel staff, uncaring nurses and crappy doctors. I will never, ever go back here. Ever.
The Vic is a great hospital, they have some amazing doctors, but it is very dirty. I went in to have gyne surgery and the exam room had blood on the walls. After the surgery, I was supposed to shower but I just couldn't get myself to do it. I was sharing a room with another gyne patient but I believe the shower should be cleaned between patients when you have blood coming out of everywhere. You have great doctors, support them in their work by upping the cleanliness situation. If I ever made it, I will donate money to the women's wing of this hospital.
I came to the emergency room Friday March 2019, because I had some depression. They told me to keep me one night and I will leave Saturday. When I tried to leave on Saturday March 30, 2019, the nurses prevented me and called the security. They pushed me, forced me on wheel chair, forced me to take the medicine or they injected the medicine, through me on the bed, forced me to change my clothes and locked the door. After that doctor came and put on form and I could not go home. All what had happened is against the law. I had the right to leave the hospital since Saturday March 30, 2019, but I am still in the hospital.
