Ratings for Dr. Ivan Rebeyka
Dr. Rebeyka operated on my son twice 27 years ago. My son had a Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries. At nine weeks old, Dr. Rebeyka repaired a stenosis and banded the pulmonary artery so my son could gain weight for the next surgery at 18 month old. Dr Rebeyka is considered a "Star" in the field by his colleagues. Probably the most skilled pediatric heart surgeon in the world. My son's case was very difficult and I don't believe my child would be here without his skill. My son was in the hospital recovering for 6 weeks, and there was only 2 days we did not see him check up on my child. That is unheard of! Once out of the ICU, the surgeon rarely sees his patients as the rest of the cardiology team takes over. He is truly a very special man. Dr. Rebeyka was recommended to us from a doctor who worked in the operating room with him. We are so glad we were able to requested him and waited the few extra days so he could do the surgery. Best decision of my life. He's the best of the best.
Dr. Rebeyka operated several times on our son, doing both closed and open heart surgeries for Tetrology of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia. He is a man of few words, but is incredibly skilled in his speciality and is responsible for giving our baby, who is now a strapping 17 year old a chance at the kind of longevity he'd never had had without these interventions. How does any parent thank someone whose dedicated their lives to proficiently performing these delicate, life saving and cutting edge operations ? While he humbly, patiently and simply explained how he fixed our son's tiny heart, and came to visit him despite being on holiday, his humility shadows what a genuine super hero he is. We will forever be grateful to him for all he's done for our son. Thank you very much for your dedication and focus Dr. Rebeyka ! Canadians are so fortunate you call this country home.
Dr. Rebeyka operated on my son, who was born with TGA, at 7 days after birth at the Stollery in Edmonton. This gentle man is a hero. Who decides to take a job operating on hearts the size of small strawberries?! He doesn’t say much, but he cares and he does the right thing. Sometimes the docs like to ask you what you do for a living, so they can best understand how to explain procedures to you. I once overheard a man say he was a plumber and Dr. Rebeyka’s response was “ahhh, good. So we basically do the same thing.” Lol fix the plumbing. After surgery, all I could mumble to him was “thank you”. He just put his hand on my shoulder and gave me a little nod. Little did he know I owed him everything in that very moment of my life. He operated on the heart that only my heart really knew. A year later I wrote him a Christmas card and he personally wrote back. Have respect for this man and his time. Do your research, come prepared with questions and ask rather than accuse. Remember, he could give his time and talent to anywhere else in the world. We are lucky to have one of the very best here in Alberta.
Dr. Rebeyka operated on me when I was 18 and then again when I was 26. There is something to be said about a medical professional that not only checks in on his patients Monday through Friday but Saturday as well! Dr. Rebeyka is skillful, humble and kind and I'll forever be indebted to him for giving me two chances at a better quality of life. Thank you, Dr. Rebeyka!!
