Ratings for Dr. Brian R. Subach
Dr. Subach was one of many neurosurgeons I visited when initially looking for a doctor and treatment for my back. I would typically ask each surgeon how long the procedure would help me - for example what where the longitudinal studies say 5, 10, or later on how well the procedure held up as I'm in my 30s. (I had one tell me to go look it up myself in a library). Only Dr Subach lit up at the question - saying what a great question it was. He demonstrated great knowledge on just what procedure was best for a situation and according to studies how long it would last. I'll just say that every step of the process Dr Subach and his staff showed the utmost care and attention to my case. We tried to avoid surgery if possible, but I eventually had the procedure and am very happy with the result still some 8 years later. I highly recommend Dr Subach.
I went to Virginia Spine Institute for treatment of spinal stenosis. Dr. Subach is absolutely the best physician I have ever worked with. His level of empathy far exceeded my expectations. He listened when I needed him to listen, and he took the time to explain the condition with both short-term and long-term effects. I had his undivided attention, and it seemed like there was nowhere else he needed to be but in the room with me, discussing my spinal care. When we talked about treatment options, he gave me all the information I needed and let me draw my own conclusion. He wasn't hard-selling surgery - it just happened to be the logical course of action. I felt confident in his skill as a surgeon and his compassion as a healthcare provider. The physicians and PAs on his team are just as compassionate and knowledgeable, and they supported me in determining time and activity restrictions for returning to work. They responded to emails with phone calls when I had questions. The staff helped to coordinate benefits for medical leave and assisted in scheduling necessary tests and pre-op visits. I felt prepared and informed at all times. Healthcare in general would be easier to deal with if all practices were as efficient and well planned as Virginia Spine Institute.
Dr Subach did a tri level fusion from L3to S1 on me two months ago may 21 and may 23. In my opinion He is the best spine surgeon in the World. He is Smart, funny, compassionate and has never made me feel that he didn't have time for me, I would recommend him and do to anyone that has spine issues. The staff are very well informed and always helpful. I personally have Never been treated so well!!!! The Virginia Spine Institute has it together and up to date!!
This is an impressive office and the skill and caring of Dr. Subach was evident on my first visit. He was totally supportive of my interest in trying to avoid surgery--through Physical Therapy and injections. I have exhausted those options and will have surgery. He and his staff fully explained everything and made me comfortable with that decision. He really is a teacher as well as a surgeon. I talked to four other surgeons before I found Dr. Subach--but wished i'd started with him.
This man saved my life in 2002... I was quickly losing muscle control and strength due to a Chiari Malformation. Dr. Subach went above and beyond his duties to help me obtain a grant to help with my surgery as I needed it so badly and had no insurance at the time. It has been 10 years this month and a recent scan showed that his procedure still looks perfect. I am having a second decompression in 2 days due to another cause and Oh how I wish he was still in Atlanta!
I appreciated the fact that Dr Subach sat down with me and explained my mri. Although surgery was an option, he prescribed physical therapy and medication. The arm pain from the bone spurs in my neck essentially disappeared with traction. So glad I found him as a second opinion! Would recommend him to my family and friends. Office team was nice too.
Pushed for unessicary surgery and performed the wrong proceedure botched it to boot! Never visited me in the hospital. Like an earlier reviewer my neck is exponentially worse after his surgery. Since my surgery I've heard many a bad thing about VA Spine Institue. They are in medicine for all the wrong reasons. I strongly recommend looking else where.
Ruined my life with a botched lumbar fusion. Never visited me in the hospital. Never returned calls. Sent home with NO pain control post surgery. Staff was incredibly inept. He showed no concern for my worsening pain post surgery. My back is exponentially worse after his surgery and I am now totally disabled. I live in excruciating pain every moment. He refused to schedule a follow-up appointment although I begged for his help on the phone and he had a secretary call to tell me "the doctor says he can't do anything more for you". Every surgeon I have consulted since says there is no way to surgically correct his mistakes. I would never ever recommend this doctor to anyone. My experience with him brings into question not only his compassion but also competency.
There is not enough good things that I can say about Dr. Subach. He accepted me as a patient just 2 weeks after a different surgeon messed me up during and post/surgery. Unfortunately, I'm starting to have additional problems related to the first Dr's errors and although I moved thousands of miles away I believe I'll be flying back to Dr. Subach for additional care. He didn't always tell me what I wanted to hear, but he told me the truth (which to me is the most importantthing) and told me in a kind and caring manner. The pain treatment he prescribed for me made my life better.
