Do you yearn to put yourself in downward dog in a group or salute the sun with at least ten people around you doing the same thing, but the problem is you find all that yoga sh*t to be too airy-fairy to actually join in?
Maybe Rage Yoga is for you. What the f*$k is Rage Yoga? It’s a new version of Zenning out for people based in Calgary, Canada, who want to swear a bit while stretching out on that thin, rectangular mat and, you know, maybe have a beer afterwards.
An article on womenshealthmag.com is telling the story of how Rage Yoga founder, Lindsay-Marie Istace, started her practice after going through a bad breakup.
“During that time my practice became a lot more swear-y. I was angry, hurt, confused, and my time on the mat became a safe haven for me to let it out while reconnecting with my body,” she is quoted as saying.
Rage Yoga is defined on Istace’s website as “a practice involving stretching, positional exercises and bad humor, with the goal of attaining good health and to become zen as f*ck. More than just a practice, Rage Yoga is an attitude.”
A present, Rage Yoga classes take place in a basement below a pub, and have Metallica and Black Sabbath playing as an accompaniment to slow Vinyasa movements.
Participants get the chance to partake in two discount pints at $4 CAN each, (yes, that’s a discount on beer in Canada,) after or before getting their aggression out down below.
Sound like fun? Check out the Rage Yoga website for info on traveling workshops and updates on classes that may be surfacing soon, online.
