Italian Researchers: A Beer or Two a Day is Good For Your Heart

If you like a tall cold one after work, you may be doing yourself some good. Researchers are now saying that a beer or two a day could help protect you against a heart attack.

Of course, more than that daily has been proven to have a detrimental effect on human health, but it seems that consuming brewskies in moderation could be good for you.

Researchers in Italy conducted what’s known as a metareview of 150 studies done by the Mediterranean Neurological Institute, in Pozzilli. They found that drinking 1.4 pints of beer a day could reduce the chances of having a heart attack by up to 25 per cent.

Men can possibly drink two cans of beer a day and women, one small can for positive results.

The study was published in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases and concluded the alcohol content in beer may do good by raising the levels of “positive” cholesterol and in turn, reducing the risk of developing heart disease.

Is it time to start buying beer, then? If you don’t already drink it, it’s good to keep in mind that, obviously, it’s not necessary to start in order to have good heart health. A daily bicycle ride is also an easy way to stay healthy.

The American Heart Association warns that drinking more than the amounts recommended by the study could increase the chances of alcoholism, and the risk of developing other problems such as high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, and breast cancer.

The Italian researchers have done a favor for those of us who do like a tall one now and then, though, and certainly the beer companies are applauding.
